Rescuing lambs

Two weeks ago on a freezing day in the Catlins, I came across a lamb on the side of the road in long grass.  It was difficult to tell whether it was alive or not. Looking closer, it was alive, but very cold and no mother to be seen. I picked it up and carried it under my arm, while on my bike, for a couple of kms to the nearest farmhouse, which was not easy.

The farmer was home, but not too pleased to receive the almost lifeless bundle of wool. ' You know what you've got yourself now?' he asked 'a pet lamb'

However, after some discussion, he agreed to take the lamb...I hope he made it, poor fella.
